Edmonton Maternity & Newborn Photographer {Baby Graeme}

Spring is officially here and for me that means the start of my busiest time of year is just around the corner, 80% of family sessions are booked between April and October. Weekend session dates are booking up the fastest, be sure to visit my online booking page soon to secure your 2019 family session date. This past week was amazing, I shot the newborn session featured below, as well as a branding session and my dentist’s office, can’t wait to share more from each unique session. I also taught my first Mama & Camera’s Learn to Shoot Manual class to six wonderful ladies yesterday and wow does teaching again ever feel good. It is truly so rewarding to share my photography knowledge with others and I am looking forward to teaching another Mama’s & Cameras classes again later this year.

I met Taryn and Nathan earlier this year for a maternity session in the always beautiful Hole’s Greenhouse in St. Albert. We had the most beautiful light and you could just feel the excitement and joy these two had for their very special IVF baby that they had been waiting many years for - made with a lots of love and a little bit of science. I couldn’t wait to see them again and meet their little boy this spring.

Little Graeme couldn’t have been more perfect when I met his for his newborn session when he was 12 days new. He was so calm as I wrapped him up and he drifted off to a deep sleep for most of the session. I could only imagine waiting so long for your first baby and then finally getting to snuggle them in your arms, must feel like heaven. The love and joy that surrounds a new baby is such an honour to capture and these two sure adore their baby boy. Taryn and Nathan thank you so much for having me photograph this very special time for your family. Wishing you all the best as a family of 3 (pius one - glad we got Edison in some shots)

Edmonton Newborn Photographer {Baby Eddie} Sneak Peek

I can't believe we are already in the last week of July, this summer is flying by way too fast! Headed over the canola fields just outside of town this evening to snap some photos of my girls, such a pretty Alberta summer landscape but they come and go in a matter of weeks. Still looking to book a summer family session - perhaps in the canola fields? I have 4 openings left in July & August and at $50 off they will book up quickly. I also announced in my previous post that I will not be hosting fall mini sessions this year - I did however add a couple weekend spots in mid September and early October that I am sure won't last long. Book your session now with my easy online booking tool - just click the button below.

I have been fortunate to meet so many brand new babies this July and little Eddie was one of my first. I just love meeting new parents, and this couple was just glowing with happiness and love for their first born and each other in their new roles as parents. My wrapping skills have definitely reached a high level after nearly 100 newborn sessions and I always giggle a little inside when new parents ask where to buy the wraps and watch intently as I wrap their little ones - Andrea & Blair hope some wrapping tips helped you get a good night's sleep after our session! Sweet little Eddie was just a dream to capture and I had the prettiest light to work with in the lower level of the family's beautiful home. Andrea & Blair thank you so much for inviting me into your home to capture this special time for your family.  Wishing you all the best as family of three. Enjoy! {K}

Edmonton & Area CrossFit Photographer {Heather} Sneak Peek

Inspiration/inspired/inspirational are not words that I use lightly, so when I had a student in my photography class come up to me and tell me that I was an inspiration to them, I couldn't help but feel an enormous well of confidence and pride. It got me thinking a lot the last few weeks about how I got where I am today, running a successful photography business, teaching photography classes, supporting my family financially and really doing a job that I love. The truth is that I used to be the most introverted, shy, unconfident, self doubting person, someone who would never take chances, never try anything new, never take risks, always letting the fear of failure hold me back. It took me 30 years to figure out that sometimes, taking risks, stepping out of your comfort zone and doing something that you never thought you could do is one of the most empowering things you can do for yourself.

For me it started 3 years ago when after thinking about starting a photography business for the better part of 5 years, but always letting fear get in the way, I took a risk and booked my first clients. My whole first year in business was full of sleepless nights, self doubt and constant fear that I wasn't good enough. I constantly compared myself to others, and I greatly under valued my time and talent and basically worked for free. I honestly don't know why or when my attitude changed, but in the past year I have gotten to a place where I am more confident in myself and my business than I ever was before. I raised my prices to a sustainable level and now I book families who aren't just concerned about price, but who love and value my work too. And I took a huge step out of my comfort zone and started teaching photography classes, something that I never dreamed I would have the opportunity to do; And wow it is so rewarding being able to share my skills with others, something that I will keep doing whether it's through teaching or eventually mentoring other photographers, I have found another love and purpose. This year I am taking on the risk of opening a new home studio in my small town, and just last week I made my first huge financial decision on my own purchasing and financing a new vehicle as a business owner, something that I worked so hard for, but really never believed would happen. The point I want to make is that doing things that scare you, that take you completely out of your comfort zone, are so worth it, it really helps you grow as a person. I saw a quote this week that summed it up perfectly - "Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will'' ~Karim Seddiki

I couldn't think of a more appropriate session to share with you all that ties right into the topic of inspiration, hard work and doing something that you never thought possible. My dear friend Heather, who I have only had the pleasure of knowing for the past year, approached me in the fall to photograph her at her gym - Leduc CrossFit. I have only known the Heather that you see in these photos, a strong, beautiful, hardworking mom of three. What I learned when I did this session earlier this month was that Heather had been working incredibly hard with her trainer for the past several months to not only become incredibly fit and strong but also for a normalized relationship with food and with herself. I encourage to read more about her incredible journey on her blog. Heather, you are truly an inspiration, thank you so much for having me capture this special time for you. I hope you can look at these photos and feel a great sense of pride in how far you have come. Enjoy. {K}

Edmonton Newborn Photographer {Baby Ava} Sneak Peek

This month has sure flown by. October to Christmas seems to just fly by for my family every year, my middle daughter's birthday is at the end of the month and it always just seems to come out of nowhere - hard to believe she is already turning 5. Her birthday coincides with my favorite shopping day of the year - the perfect day to get all of your Christmas shopping done - Black Friday! Keep an eye on my Facebook and Instagram later this week to score the best deal on a 2018 session with me or to save on gift certificates which make the perfect gift for parents/grandparents for an extended family session or couples that are expecting in the new year.

I met this stunning family for a late fall maternity session and had such a lovely time capturing them I couldn't wait for their newborn session. It is so true that your heart just continues to grow with each new baby, and with four now, sweet little Ava was surrounded by so much love for her newborn photos. Watching all three of the sweetest kids just adore their baby sister absolutely melted my hear, and Ava was just an angel for the whole session. Jill & Boris, thank you again for inviting me into your home having me capture this special time. Wishing you all the best as a family of six.

Edmonton Newborn Photographer {Baby Lincoln} Sneak Peek

The summer of adorable newborns continues. I have had the pleasure of photographing more newborns this summer than I ever have, and I just seem to fall more in love with these sessions every time.  There is just something about the love that surrounds a newborn that I just find intoxicating, and because all of my newborn sessions are done on location in my newborn families homes, families are always so relaxed, making the sessions seem really effortless the more I do them.

This session might be one of my favorites of all time. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by the most gorgeous family in a beautiful light filled home. Little Lincoln was a surprise baby boy, so we promptly took him out of the pink blanket he was in and wrapped him up in a blue one. Big sister Jemma proudly showed me her big girl room and her favorite stuffies, one of which made his appearance in some shots because, why not? Sometimes those stuffies are really part of the family. Mom, who looked absolutely stunning after having a baby just 5 days earlier, had the cutest ideas for some sibling shots in Lincoln's nursery, and it really turned into the sweetest moment when Jemma read her baby brother a few stories in the cute little canvas tent. After some lifestyle family shots, Lincoln was a dream for me when it was time for his posed shots, so curled up and sleepy. I seriously didn't want to go home. Jill and James, thank you so much for inviting me into your beautiful home to capture this special time. Wishing you all the best as a family of four. Enjoy. {K}
