Edmonton Newborn Photographer {Baby Donovan}

Happy Thursday everyone, here is a rare afternoon post for you as last night got away from me and I never blogged this session as promised. Sending a huge thank you out to my mama who took my littlest for the afternoon so I could try and get somewhat caught up on my mountain of blogging, editing, packaging and sending USBS, banking, invoicing and some social media etc…if you were wondering what you are investing in when you book a session it’s not just the time I spend taking your photos, but all of the behind scenes stuff that takes place in order to deliver a professional quality experience to every family I am lucky to photograph. Pricing has been a hot topic as of late. I have shared this post on my personal Facebook page and had such a wonderful response and wanted to share here for every family that is thinking about investing in a session with me and as a thank you to everyone who has trusted me to capture their family’s precious memories and given me the opportunity to do a job that I love everyday. I’ve known some families for four years now and watching their families grow is really such an honour and privilege.

So something’s been on my mind.

I 100% understand everyone has a budget. I do, too. Everyone has bills and responsibilities. I do, too. We all do!
And a lot of people have their luxuries- or things they value highly.

Example: Most people have a smart phone. Those things aren’t cheap. But if it’s something you value, you invest.

Thing is- a lot of the stuff that’s expensive in our lives won’t last forever. My phone is only like 3 years old and it’s basically at the end of its life. Some people get a new phone everytime the new model comes out. That stuff isn’t cheap... but people place value to those things in their lives. If it matters to you, you’ll invest in it.

So here’s why I’m talking about this. I get really frustrated sometimes (a lot of photographers do) hearing about how we are too expensive... or our prices are ridiculous. Or cost “an arm and a leg.”

Because photography isn’t an outfit you’ll outgrow.
Photography isn’t a cell phone that’ll run too slow in two years.
Photography isn’t an accessory that’ll go out of style.
Or a car that won’t drive in 15 years.

Photographs are forever.
And photography is a way to capture life as it FLIES on by.

Photography is a way to remember how small your baby’s tiny toes were.
It’s a way to remember the smiles, the nose scrunches, the tears, the hugs, the heights, the tiny fingers and tiny toes, the kisses and the bonds.

It’s a snapshot into your lives at that very moment.
The moment’s that you can’t get back.

I promise you these photos you invest in won’t need a new battery and they won’t require a tune up.

They will exist for years and years to come.
When your kids are all like “Mom, you’re embarrassing me”
Or when your kids have somehow grown taller then you.
These photos will exist when your kids have moved into their own homes and have their own families.

They become priceless.
I’m writing this not to say HEY ignore your budgets!
No.
Not at all.
I’m writing this to maybe give you a different perspective. To educate about the importance of photography and why we all believe it’s a high priority. And maybe help you understand why we believe in the experience and product we give you.

Honestly, we just want you to love your photos and FEEL the memories flood back when you look upon them over the years.

When you invest in your photography, you invest in memories.
You invest in life.

It’s an honor to be apart of something so much bigger then myself and to be apart of your memories.

I met little Donovan a few weeks ago now and could not wait to share more from his session. First - oh my gosh that red hair, I don’t think in four years of photographing newborns I have ever met a more gorgeous ginger baby. And on top of that, 9.5 lbs. of pure baby squishiness. Sometimes I have to pinch myself, I really do photograph the most beautiful babies. This little guy is lucky to have two big sisters and you could just see the joy in their eyes and heart every time they got to hold or snuggle their new baby brother, so heart melting. Michelle Ann & Todd, thank you so much for inviting me into your beautiful home to capture this special time for your family. Wishing you all the very best as a family of five (or 6, we have to include Norman the Great Dane) .

Edmonton Newborn Photographer {Baby Evan} Sneak Peek

After a busy June so far I still can't believe that tomorrow is the last day of school for my kindergartener and there is only one week left for my 8 year old. Summer holidays is really when we can have the most fun as a family and I am looking forward to lazy mornings at home and afternoons spent outside. I take a bit of time off in July and August. so now is the best time to book your summer family session or newborn session. Summer is a great time for extended family sessions as you usually have family visiting or it's easier to get families that have kids usually busy during the school year together over the summer. July and August sessions are now 50$ off if booked before June 30, contact me for more info and availability.

Sometimes I have to pinch myself. I can't believe how lucky I am to get to photograph some of Edmonton's most beautiful families. I met this family a couple years ago after their first daughter was born and was thrilled when they hired me again to photograph their brand new baby boy. Little Evan was born just in time for me to get home from a long weekend away in Montana and photograph his fresh 48 session. Capturing those first days in hospital is such a joy for me as I know I am capturing such fleeting memories that fade as your babies grow.

I saw this gorgeous family again when Evan was just a couple weeks old and everyone was starting to get settled at home. Big sister Ayla was as sweet as always and just smitten with her baby brother. Little Evan was nice and sleepy for his posed photos but eyes wide at the end of the session, looking so grown up already, so adorable. I absolutely love photographing this family as their home has such beautiful natural light, it is really easy to shoot anywhere in the house, such a treat. Alison & Justin, thank you so much for inviting me into your home to capture this special time for you, looking forward to seeing you all again soon. Enjoy. {K}

Late post tonight, sometimes technology fails me at the worst possible time! This month has been so busy behind the scenes. My new in home studio space is coming together and will be ready just in time for Easter Minis happening this Sunday...I can't wait. I have to thank my amazing husband who has spent so many hours sanding, painting and helping me build my dream in home studio, I am such a lucky lady. I am hoping to have my new website and packages that include in home, on location and studio pricing ready soon! Be sure to join my VIP group on Facebook though for the latest announcements as well as special introductory pricing and studio model calls.

I can't believe it was almost two summers ago that I first met this beautiful family to capture little Dresden turning one. I was happy to have the opportunity to photograph their growing family again with the arrival of baby Vinh, such a sweet baby boy. I am so lucky to be invited into families homes to capture such a special time, a fleeting time that passes so quickly but is so full of love and moments that you will want to hold onto forever. At just 5 days old, little Vinh was so sleepy for most of the session, so content in the arms of his mom or dad or snuggled up with his brother. Stephanie and Kevin, thank you for inviting me into your beautiful home to capture this special time, it was so nice seeing you all again. Wishing you all the best as a family of four. Enjoy. {K}

My new in home studio is coming together beautifully and I am finalizing a date for a grand opening soon! With the new studio space I figured it was also a good time for a little bit of rebranding, so a new website is on the way soon too. I am so lucky that I have had this opportunity to grow my business, thank you to everyone for the amazing support. 2018 is going to be awesome. Have you joined my VIP group yet, lots of giveaways and model calls are coming up soon, don't miss out!

I met this beautiful baby girl earlier this year during one of my busiest months of newborn sessions. Sirjanna's mama contacted me after she arrived and I was so happy that I was able to fit them in last minute - sometimes you don't realize how special and fleeting those early days with baby are or booking a newborn session is the last thing on your mind when you are busy preparing for baby's arrival, but sometimes it's not too late. This little sweetheart had just the sweetest chubby cheeks, but was definitely happier in her mama's arms once she woke up, I definitely had to work hard for those sleepy shots.  Baljeet & Nirmaljit thank you so much for inviting me into your beautiful home to capture this special time. Wishing you all the best as a family of three. Enjoy. {K}

I met this beautiful family just before Christmas for Lisa's in home maternity session, and was so excited to hear that they welcomed a baby boy in the new year, Rowan, a little brother for big sister Maci. I don't think I have ever had an easier family to photograph, their love for each other just poured into every shot and they are all so laid back in front of the camera, such a joy to capture. Seeing the bond between siblings grow so early on is so precious and little Maci sure adores her brother; I am so lucky to be witness to such special moments in families lives. Lisa & Byron, thank you so much for inviting me into your home to capture this fleeting time. Wishing you all the best as a family of four. Enjoy. {K}
